MRSA Conference
217
MRSA & Families Network.

www.mrsaandfamiliesnetwork.ie

A conference will be held under the auspices of MRSA and Families Network in the Emmet Theatre, Trinity College, Dublin, on Tuesday, 19th June, 2007 starting at 9.30 a.m.. The theme of this conference is the human, social and financial cost of MRSA and other hospital acquired infections. We have presented the problem of hospital acquired infection before, and national and international experts have suggested possible strategies for the prevention and control of these infections which have become endemic in many Irish hospitals. There has been no discernable improvement.

On this occasion, in addition to the difficulties experienced by MRSA casualties and their families, we are presenting the financial costs of treating HAIs and the potential costs of compensating people for the injury they have suffered from what are largely preventable conditions. The opinion that prevention costs less than treatment will be explored.

The conference will be chaired by the eminent The Hon. Mr. Justice Hugh O'Flaherty, who will open the conference at 9.30. The programme is as follows:

9.35 a.m.. The human and social cost of MRSA – Margaret Dawson, founding member of MRSA and Families Network, Noeleen Friel and Tony Kavanagh

Olin Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, held a postdoctoral fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and taught at Vassar College and Columbia University.
