Re. Campaign for a Decent Public Health Service

Dear Janette,

The Dublin Council of Trade Unions, in co-operation with the Health Trade Unions and the Youth Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, are organising a Campaign for a Decent Public Health Service.

We hope to bring together the trade unions representing the people who work in the Health Service, with patients’ groups, Health campaigners, outspoken Health Professionals, and the general public, in a combined effort.

We are initiating the Campaign with a Public Meeting in the Auditorium of Liberty Hall at 6.00 p.m. on Monday 11th February 2008.

There will be speakers from the INO, IMPACT and SIPTU and from each of the areas mentioned above.

We are asking Patients Together to join us in this Campaign and that you yourself, or a representative of Patients Together, speak from the platform at our Public Meeting on 11th February. A short speech of ten minutes would be fine, as we will have five or six speakers and we would like to leave good time to allow members of the audience to join the discussion. You may also join in the Campaign through:

· Circulating our material to all your members and urging them to attend the Public Meeting on 11th February;

· Getting the word around through your mailing lists and networks;

· Using any methods of publicity you may have access to, including your website, journal or newsletter;

· Participating in the future events of the campaign (some of which will be outlined at the Public Meeting) and coming aboard our organising committee;

I shall talk to you by phone soon if that is OK. My contact details are:01 6724001 (work),(email) dderwin@gofree.indigo.ie;

Thanking you for your support,

Des Derwin,
President,
Dublin Council of Trade Unions.
