Hands Across Ireland Campaign
The HSE has proven that it is an unaccountable body which does not place the interests of patients above self-interest.
In the past ten years we have lurched from one health crisis to another. Cystic fibrosis, breast cancer, bowel cancer, disabilities, mental health, MRSA, A&E, hospital beds, the list seems endless.
While these are real tragedies other tragedies remain unreported and unobserved. These quieter scandals often result in silent or lonely deaths. This affects people of all ages - people who did not die from natural causes but who died because the health service which is meant to care for them failed.
The questions we need to ask are: how many layers of management in the HSE does it take to run one hospital bed? If the upper levels of management in the HSE and government believe in the pubic health system why don't they cancel their private health insurance? Let's call on them to do so.
Why is there so much secrecy and spinning surrounding scandals?
Why does the state doctor the truth and play games with the lives of their citizens?
The women of Portlaoise asked for a report which was transparent.
What is transparent is that the state during a time of unprecedented wealth ignored the requests of medical experts in the field to provide funding for health professionals or equipment. If they couldn't do it during a time of unprecendented economic growth how do they propose 'excellence' now with the economy constricting?
We can only conclude that lives are seen as dispensable by those in the top levels of management in the HSE and in government? If you know someone who has not received the type of medical care which they should have received, or if you wish to remember someone who has died because of this appalling situation, please join a 'Hands Across Ireland Campaign' on the 15th of June, and fly a white balloon. Quietly demand new modern hospitals, fresh clean hospital beds and wards, modern efficient equipment, and enough qualified doctors, nurses and specialists to cater for the needs of every citizen of the country.
So get together, get organised from county to county and form a human chain linking cities, towns and villages right across the country. Please contact whiteballoonmovement@gmail.com to register both your support and if possible your willingness to organize in your own communities. |
